Omaha Hi also known as Omaha is a community-card game played in the same way to Texas Holdem, except that 9 cards are played, constructing a wider range of possible hands. This makes for a much more sophisticated game where you have to be good in. Omaha rules are quite similar to Texas Holdem, so in the case that you experience in those you are almost there. If you don't, they are quite simple.
The main differences are these: each gambler gets 4 pocket cards (instead of two), and the showdown uses exactly 2 of their four pocket cards along with three board cards (instead of a choice of any combinations of community and pocket cards).
Online poker rooms offer both Omaha High and Omaha Hi-Lo poker to you. The differences between the two games affect the way the prize pool is distributed.
In Omaha Hi, the person with the strongest combination takes the whole pot, while the pot Omaha Hi-Lo is divided between the gamblers who hit the strongest and worst hands.
And remember - TWO hole cards MUST be played to make a combination - no more, no less. In following guide we will describe the necessary steps to make you feel comfortable on the tables.
Cards are dealt from the position of Button, which moves in a clockwise manner around the poker table after each game. The player became as Dealer for a given hand is identified by a round "D" button on the poker table in front him. The software automatically gives cards.
Blind bets. Omaha Hold’em is played with a obligatory bet called blind bets. Before the cards are dealt, the two players, known as Big and Small Blind, sitting to the dealer’s left side pay a small and a big blind accordingly to fill a initial pot.
The Deal. Each player is dealt four cards from the deck, known as pocket cards. These cards are open only to the owner holding them.
The round of betting. After the deal, there is a pre-flop round of betting. The person sitting to the left of the Big Blind begins the first. Depending on prior activity in the hand a player has following rights to play his hands by checking, calling, betting, raising or folding. A betting round may circle the poker table several times if there are raises and re-raises. The round of betting concludes when all persons have either called all bets or folded.
Buying the Pot. If during a round of betting you make a bet and all opponents fold to you, you've bought the pot. You have the right to demonstrate or muck your cards.
The Flop (3rd street). The flop consists of 3 cards being dealt face up to the center of the table. These are common cards, they are shared by the gamblers.
Another betting round will now begin, starting from the 1st remaining player, a.k.a “under the gun” (to the left of the button ) and continuing in a clockwise manner around the table.
The Turn (4th street). After the 2nd round, the 4th community card is dealt. The 3rd round of betting takes place, starting with the 1st active person to the left of the button who is still in the game.
The River (5th street). The last card is the river. The fifth street is dealt face up in the middle of the board, and is also a communal card. The aim is to hit the best five-card combination from the seven accessible (the two hole and the five communal cards).
The final betting round now follows in the same manner as previous rounds. The players that still stay after the ending of the betting then go to the showdown.
The Showdown. It is time to demonstrate the hole cards. The active gamblers’ cards will be shown moving to the left, unless a hand is weaker than the winning combination shown. In this case, you'll have the right to open, or fold (without opening). The strongest 5-card hand grabs the money.
